Low rolling resistance, quiet ride for EV range and comfort

Continental Tire announced Tuesday that it will exclusively supply 18-inch EcoContact 7 tires as original equipment for Renault's new all-electric compact car, the Twingo.

The new Twingo reimagines Renault's urban compact car, first launched in 1992, for the electric age. Its compact body and electric powertrain are focused on city driving, making energy efficiency and low road noise key requirements for its tires.

To meet those requirements, the new Twingo comes fitted with Continental Tire's 18-inch EcoContact 7 as standard from the production stage. The tire has earned the highest ratings in both energy efficiency and road noise on the EU tire label, demonstrating its suitability for the efficiency and quietness electric vehicles demand.

The EcoContact 7 is engineered to reduce internal friction and rolling resistance through a new rubber EMC and "Smart Energy Casing" technology. It also features an "AeroDimple" structure inspired by the surface of a golf ball to improve airflow at the rear of the tire, while a "Silent Pattern" tread design reduces noise during low-speed urban driving.

Continental and Renault Group have also extended their partnership into the development of high-efficiency tires for electric vehicles. Continental participates as a technology partner in Renault Group's development and innovation platform "Garage Futurama," collaborating on high-efficiency tires that combine tread EMC, sidewall design and tire structure tailored to Renault Group's specifications, all based on the EcoContact 7. The two companies are continuing their technical cooperation beyond original-equipment supply to improve EV driving efficiency.

"As electric vehicles become more widespread globally, the role of tires in supporting energy efficiency and a quiet driving environment is becoming increasingly important," said Niko Kyriazopoulos, head of replacement tires at Continental Tire Korea. "The EcoContact 7 offers the low rolling resistance and quiet performance that electric vehicles require, and we expect it to contribute to delivering the efficiency and comfortable driving experience the EV era demands."

Continental, a leading tire manufacturer and industry specialist, was founded in 1871. The company posted sales of approximately 19.7 billion euros ($22.7 billion) in 2025 and currently employs about 76,000 people across 54 countries and markets.
