A woman in her 60s struck and killed her mother-in-law while parking a vehicle in a residential garage.

The Okcheon Police Station in North Chungcheong Province said Tuesday it is investigating a woman identified only as A, in her 60s, on charges of causing death in a traffic accident under the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Settlement of Traffic Accidents.

A is accused of striking her mother-in-law, identified as B, a woman in her 90s, with the vehicle at around 2 p.m. Sunday while pulling into the garage of a detached house in Okcheon. B had been sitting on the garage floor to rest and died from her injuries.

A had returned from church with her husband and was driving forward into the garage when the front of the vehicle struck B, according to the investigation.

The garage driveway slopes upward, which is believed to have made it difficult for A to see B from the driver's seat.

A told police she did not realize the accident had occurred until she got out of the vehicle.

Police are investigating the exact circumstances of the incident based on statements from family members, who said B regularly rested in the garage.
