Yeongju City in North Gyeongsang Province visited the provincial government Monday to present eight priority projects aimed at securing future growth engines and resolving pressing local issues, calling on the province for active support and cooperation.

Mayor Hwang Byeong-jik met with Governor Lee Cheol-woo that day alongside North Gyeongsang Provincial Assembly lawmakers U Chung-mu, Im Mu-seok and Heo Ji-hun to outline the need for the city's key pending projects.

The delegation then called on provincial department heads in turn, conveying the direction and coordination needs for each project and requesting provincial-level support in resolving local issues.

The eight projects Yeongju proposed include designation of an opportunity development zone, development of the Joje general industrial complex to attract defense industry firms, construction of a golf course, a carbon-free power development project, construction of a central-region east-west cross railway and relocation of the Yeongdong Line urban section, road alignment improvements on the Yeongju-Buseok provincial road, establishment of an industrial base for plant cell culture-based future food and natural products, and construction of a large indoor children's playground.

Among these, the city asked the province to play an active role in securing the opportunity development zone designation and developing the Joje general industrial complex — both aimed at building an industrial ecosystem linking defense companies with the Advanced Bearing National Industrial Complex at its core.

For the opportunity development zone, the city requested support to ensure Yeongju is included in the province's designation plan. For the Joje complex, it asked for cooperation to ensure development and follow-up administrative procedures proceed smoothly.

"We will work closely with North Gyeongsang Province to ensure the key projects that will determine Yeongju's future move forward without a hitch," Mayor Hwang said. "We will continue to actively identify strategic projects to secure national funding and drive regional development, and will keep visiting the province and the central government to resolve local issues."
