North Gyeongsang Province has appointed Lee Bu-hyung as its new political affairs chief, a Grade 2-equivalent position.

According to the provincial government Monday, Lee, a native of Pohang, previously served as a special economic adviser to the province during its seventh elected administration, an administrator at the presidential office and vice president of industry-academia cooperation at Uiduk University.

In his new role, Lee is expected to strengthen coordination and communication with the provincial assembly, political circles and the central government to advance regional development and resolve key local issues.

"I will do my best to bring to fruition the seeds planted during the seventh and eighth elected administrations," Lee said. "I will also play a role in supporting the administrative integration of Daegu and North Gyeongsang Province and the push to build a new airport — the two biggest issues facing the region."
