The area around Seokchon Lake's East Lake in Seoul's Songpa-gu will be transformed by the music of BIGBANG as the group marks its 20th anniversary.

Songpa-gu will launch a public art project centered on BIGBANG's music and fandom at the East Lake from Friday through Aug. 23, marking the first time such an event has been held there.

The project is built around the concept of a "Fandom Playground" — a format in which a space is filled with symbolic elements beloved by fans, such as signature colors, music and photo zones, without the artist being physically present. The approach has taken hold in the K-pop scene in recent years. Visitors will be able to encounter traces of BIGBANG throughout the lakeside, linger and enjoy the atmosphere.

The centerpiece of the project is a crown sculpture — a symbol of BIGBANG. A large 5-meter crown will greet visitors on the waterfront stage at the East Lake. Along the walking path, 400 yellow lights will illuminate the night, and photo zones of various shapes will be scattered throughout the grounds. "The Sphere," a media art installation at the West Lake, will display messages for K-pop fans.

Throughout the project period, 21 of BIGBANG's signature songs — including "Lies," "Haru Haru" and "BANG BANG BANG" — will play along the East Lake walking path. On Aug. 19, the group's actual 20th debut anniversary, a new song will also be available to hear.

YG Entertainment and Lotte Department Store are organizing and hosting the BIGBANG 20th Anniversary Public Art Project, with Songpa-gu serving as a sponsor. Lotte Department Store will oversee safety management and on-site operations, while Songpa-gu plans to conduct regular inspections at the venue throughout the event.

To mark its 20th anniversary, BIGBANG will release a new digital single, "BiiiG," at 6 p.m. on Aug. 19. The group will then kick off a large-scale world tour, "XX : COSMOS," with performances at Goyang Stadium's main arena from Aug. 21 to 23.

"Seokchon Lake has become a beloved cultural landmark not only for local residents but also for many citizens and foreign tourists through its public art projects," Songpa-gu District Mayor Seo Gang-seok said. "We will continue to present diverse content so that it can grow further as a world-class cultural destination."
