Travelers heading to Taebaek from Aug. 18 will be able to rest at a one-stop destination for tourism, relaxation and cultural enrichment, as the city opens its new Heal-being Lounge.

The Heal-being Lounge — a name combining "heal" and "being" — is the city's flagship public amenity and will be open free of charge to both residents and visitors.

Taebaek city developed the lounge on the first floor of the Jangseong Cultural Platform at 175 Jangseong 1-gil as part of the third phase of its coal-transition area tourism revitalization project. It will operate on a trial basis from Aug. 18 through December.

The lounge is a multipurpose cultural space linked to the Coal Heritage Digital Archiving Exhibition Hall, which was completed in January. It is designed to let residents and tourists linger comfortably while accessing tourism and cultural information about Taebaek as well as a range of local resources.

The lounge features a rest area, a tourism product pop-up stand, a smart library, a Taeboom mascot sculpture and a photo booth, giving visitors a place to unwind while exploring a variety of Taebaek-themed content.

"The Heal-being Lounge is more than just a place to rest — it is a new communication space where people can discover Taebaek's tourism and culture and find a wide range of local information all in one place," a city official said. "We will continuously refine the operations and content so that both residents and visitors can feel the charm of Taebaek while spending time here comfortably."

The name Heal-being Lounge reflects the space's purpose: to offer visitors a comfortable retreat where they can experience deep rest — "heal" — and reflect on the value of simply being, set against Taebaek's natural surroundings.

The lounge will also display Taebaek tourism brochures, tourism merchandise and promotional materials for the city's top local product co-brand, making it easy for visitors to find tourism information alongside a broad range of resources on local culture and everyday life, all in one place.

The lounge will also operate a smart library with self-service book borrowing and returns, improving access for residents in the Jangseong area who have found the nearby public library relatively inconvenient to use. The city expects the space to become a useful lifestyle and cultural hub for office workers looking to make use of their weekday lunch breaks as well.

The Heal-being Lounge will be open to all from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays. During the trial period, the city plans to monitor visitor satisfaction and operational efficiency, actively gather user feedback, and continuously improve the space's functions and content.
