President Lee Jae Myung on Friday declared four townships under the jurisdiction of Andong and Uiseong-gun in North Gyeongsang Province special disaster zones following heavy rain damage.

Cheong Wa Dae chief spokesperson Kang Yu-jung said in a written briefing that day that Lee made the declaration at around 5 p.m., designating the four townships that sustained severe damage from heavy rain that struck from July 8 to July 24.

Kang said areas designated as special disaster zones would receive additional central government funding for recovery efforts, while affected residents would be granted further support including deferrals on national and local tax payments and reductions on public utility fees.

"The government plans to finalize a recovery plan as soon as possible and will make every effort to help residents in the affected areas return to their daily lives quickly," she added.
