The film "Hope" has been officially selected for the Midnight Madness section of the 51st Toronto International Film Festival.

Plus M Entertainment announced Friday that "Hope" had been invited to the Midnight Madness section of the Toronto International Film Festival.

Midnight Madness is a section dedicated to bold, visually inventive genre films with distinctive concepts.

"Hope" is director Na Hong-jin's first film in 10 years since "The Wailing" in 2016. The sci-fi action film follows a police officer named Beomsuk, head of a branch office in the port village of Hopohang near the demilitarized zone, who responds to reports from local youth that a tiger has appeared in the village. Hwang Jung-min plays Beomsuk, with Jo In-sung and Jung Ho-yeon also starring.

The domestic box office this weekend is expected to be a two-way race between director Christopher Nolan's "Odyssey" and "Spider-Man: Brand New Day."

According to the Korean Film Council's integrated ticketing system, "Odyssey" topped the domestic box office Thursday, drawing about 246,000 viewers and capturing a 45.2 percent share of ticket revenue. "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" came in second Thursday with about 237,000 viewers and a 40.1 percent revenue share.

"Spider-Man: Brand New Day," which opened July 29, has drawn a cumulative audience of about 4.647 million and is on track to surpass 5 million viewers over the weekend.
