Hy announced Thursday that its skin-care and body-fat-reducing probiotics were named "Ingredient of the Year" at an awards ceremony hosted by NutraIngredients, a B2B trade publication.

The winning ingredients are "Skincare HY7714" and the body-fat-reducing probiotic "FatSlim HY7601+KY1032." Both were developed in-house by Hy and assigned proprietary strain numbers as functional probiotics.

Skincare HY7714 is a human-derived probiotic. Based on human clinical trials, it can help maintain skin health by supporting hydration and protecting against UV-induced damage. The judging panel gave high marks for research supporting its mechanism of action and for the scientific evidence underpinning the gut-skin axis.

FatSlim is a probiotic complex isolated from plants. South Korea's Ministry of Food and Drug Safety has recognized its functional claim for helping reduce body fat. The judges highlighted its accumulated clinical trial data, domestic commercialization track record and potential for expanding microbiome-based research as key strengths.

Both ingredients also meet global safety standards. Hy has completed New Dietary Ingredient notifications with the US Food and Drug Administration for both and has secured self-affirmed GRAS status for each. The two bring to five the total number of ingredients for which Hy has completed FDA NDI notifications.

Yang Jun-ho, head of Hy's research planning team, said the recognition "is meaningful in that it validates the research achievements we have built up over many years, as well as our manufacturing and quality-control capabilities." He added that the company would "develop ingredients grounded in scientific evidence and compliant with regulatory standards in each country, and use that to demonstrate the competitiveness of K-probiotics."

Meanwhile, Hy is broadening the applications of its proprietary strains for commercialization. The company recently developed a new cosmetics ingredient, "HY7714 CoreBioderm," derived from HY7714, and plans to expand its strain technology beyond food and health supplements into cosmetics and other industries.
