The National Assembly's special committee investigating the ballot shortage during the June 3 local elections has approved 34 witnesses to appear at its second hearing, set for July 22.
At a plenary session Tuesday, the committee voted to summon 34 witnesses and three reference persons, including 17 officials from the National Election Commission — among them acting NEC Chairman Wi Cheol-hwan.
The witness list also includes five officials from the Seoul Metropolitan Election Commission, four from the Songpa-gu Election Commission, and two each from the North Jeolla Province and Wansan-gu election commissions.
The committee also voted to call Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency Commissioner Park Jeong-bo, Ministry of Interior and Safety Autonomous Innovation Bureau Director Jin Myeong-gi and Ministry of National Defense Personnel and Welfare Bureau Director Kim Seong-jun as witnesses.
