A Daegu police officer has been booked without detention after driving drunk, striking a parked vehicle and fleeing the scene.

The Daegu Suseong Police Station booked the officer, identified only as A, on charges of violating the Road Traffic Act for causing an accident while intoxicated and leaving the scene without taking any action.

A, a junior officer attached to the Daegu Metropolitan Police Agency, is accused of driving his wife's car while drunk around 9:30 p.m. Thursday when he struck a parked vehicle in a residential area of Manchon-dong and left without stopping.

"A admitted to driving under the influence, and we are conducting a further investigation to determine his exact blood alcohol level at the time," a police official said.
