Jungnang-gu held the "Starlit Night of Sangbong" event Friday evening along Bongujae-ro 33-gil, the site of the No. 2 Sangbong Meokja alley shopping street, injecting summer-night energy into the area.
The Sangbong Meokja alley shopping street is one of Seoul's signature outdoor dining and nightlife districts, drawing large crowds — particularly younger visitors.
The summer night festival wove together performances, hands-on activities and food stalls, offering residents and visitors a memorable evening while revitalizing the alley commerce strip. Even a heavy downpour earlier in the evening did not deter the crowds, and the street remained lively throughout.
Entertainment highlights included a talent show called "Superstar Sangbong," busking sets and performances by invited singers, all of which drew enthusiastic responses from the audience. A flea market, food trucks and an outdoor seating zone rounded out the offerings, adding to the distinctive appeal of the Sangbong Meokja alley shopping street.
Also on offer were "Starlight Candy," a self-directed matching event designed to help neighbors and newcomers connect, and a prize-draw event open to anyone who brought a receipt from a local business — both drawing strong participation and encouraging spending in the district.
A lighting ceremony featuring a sculptural installation based on the street's own character mascot added a striking visual element to the nighttime streetscape, drawing visitors in and helping establish the area's distinctive brand identity as a nighttime destination for the district.
Jungnang-gu Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi said he hoped the event would give residents and visitors "a joyful summer-night memory" at the Sangbong Meokja alley shopping street. "Going forward, we will continue to breathe life into our alley commerce through diverse cultural content that reflects the character of the area, and build a local commercial district where residents and merchants grow together," he said.
