Seoul Gangseo-gu District Mayor Jin Kyo-hoon joined the district's key agencies — including police and fire departments — on Friday to work toward building a tighter community safety network.
Jin attended the 2026 Gangseo-gu Local Public Safety Council regular meeting, held at Gangseo Police Station, where he discussed with agency heads ways to collaborate on resolving pressing local issues.
The district convened the meeting to jointly examine issues closely tied to residents' daily lives — including public safety and crime prevention — and to strengthen cooperation among the participating agencies.
About 20 officials attended, including Jin, Gangseo District Council Speaker Kang Seon-yeong, Gangseo Police Station Chief Kim Sang-hee and Gangseo Fire Station Chief Kim Seong-chil, all working together to create a safer living environment for residents.
Twelve agenda items closely related to residents' daily lives were taken up at the meeting. Items discussed included the expansion of women's safe-return walking routes and installation of crime-prevention facilities, the attachment of LED information boards at child safety guardian houses, the operation of an emergency hotline for reporting suspected voice phishing, and the securing of additional public hospital beds.
Participants particularly agreed that swift, prevention-focused measures are of paramount importance. They also reached a consensus that if full-scale implementation proves difficult due to budget constraints, pilot programs should be run first, followed by a thorough analysis of each policy's effectiveness before expanding and improving them in stages.
"Strengthening the local safety network has its limits when left to any single agency, so relevant organizations must work together to address it," Jin said. "I ask the entire community to join forces in putting the safety of Gangseo-gu residents first and raising their sense of security in everyday life."
