FIFA has donated $1 million to Venezuela following a powerful earthquake that left nearly 20,000 people dead or injured.

FIFA said Friday that the contribution was part of its foundation's commitment to providing rapid assistance to communities affected by natural and man-made disasters through a humanitarian fund designed to mobilize emergency resources quickly. The foundation said it would send the funds to support emergency relief efforts in earthquake-stricken Venezuela.

The money will go toward delivering emergency humanitarian aid to those affected by the quake, supporting disaster response efforts and helping communities recover.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino said the people of Venezuela had "the full solidarity of the global football family during this incredibly difficult time." "Football has a unique ability to bring people together and inspire hope in times of crisis," he added.
