Hanwha Solutions' Qcells division — known as Hanwha Qcells — announced Friday it will handle the engineering, procurement and construction for Atlas Energy Park, one of the largest renewable energy projects in US history.

Located in La Paz County, Arizona, Atlas Energy Park is a multi-energy complex comprising 14 solar and energy storage system projects. By 2028, the site is set to house 2.8 gigawatts of solar generation capacity and 5.7 gigawatt-hours of energy storage. The complex will span 63.66 square kilometers — 22 times the area of Yeouido — making it the largest renewable energy complex in the United States.

Hanwha Qcells will serve as the sole EPC contractor for all projects within the complex and supply all solar modules to be installed at the solar facilities. Two solar plants totaling 357 megawatts, which the company developed from the ground up and built entirely on its own, were sold in May.

Hanwha Qcells operates a vertically integrated solar manufacturing complex called Solar Hub in Georgia, giving it a stable domestic supply of solar modules, and has also secured a US-based supply chain for energy storage equipment. That positions the company favorably in the American EPC market, where energy developers using domestically sourced materials are eligible for benefits such as the investment tax credit and the Domestic Content Bonus Credit.

Hanwha Qcells has completed or is pursuing renewable energy EPC projects in North America totaling more than 11 gigawatts of solar capacity and 6 gigawatt-hours of energy storage. "We will continue to lead the growth of the North American renewable energy market by enhancing customer value and business competitiveness through integrated solar and energy storage solutions," said Chris Hodrick, head of Hanwha Qcells' EPC business division.
