A man in his 70s who threatened his neighbor with a weapon after becoming enraged by a barking dog has received a suspended prison sentence.

Ulsan District Court Judge Shin Hye-won of Criminal Division 2 sentenced the defendant, identified only as A, to one year in prison, suspended for two years, on charges of aggravated intimidation, according to Yonhap News Agency on Thursday.

A is accused of approaching his neighbor, a man in his 50s identified as B, outside his home in Ulsan last April while holding a weapon and threatening him with abusive language.

A had been furious that B's dog was barking loudly, shouting, "You're keeping people from sleeping. I'll kill you," before carrying out the assault.

The court said it considered the impulsive nature of the offense and the fact that the defendant was intoxicated at the time, along with his motive and age, despite his multiple prior convictions for violence.
