Paito Gallery in Jung-gu, Seoul, is hosting "Moon Took — The Moment of Sudden Discovery," a solo exhibition by Kimijak, through Aug. 8.
In the show, Kimijak uses scenes of moonlight and sunlight, balls and stadiums, water surfaces and balance, play and breath to render in paint the emotional moments that arrive without warning. Rather than seeking out new landscapes, the artist turns toward light that was always there but had been forgotten — bringing everyday sensations back onto the canvas.
Working with intense color and restrained form, Kimijak's paintings move between the real and the unreal, inviting viewers to reflect on the emotional light they had overlooked, the questions that have long followed them, and the personal meaning each person carries in the image of the moon.
