Homeplus said Wednesday it has paid all employee wages through May as of the end of June, with 33.2 billion won ($21.7 million) in June salaries still outstanding.

The supermarket chain began delaying some wage payments in December last year after running short of operating funds following the start of court receivership proceedings in March last year. Cumulative delayed wages through June totaled 141 billion won, but the company cleared all payments through May by the end of June, leaving only the 33.2 billion won in June salaries unpaid.

"Even as product payments are the most pressing need for normalizing operations, we are doing our utmost to ensure employee wages are not delayed for an extended period," a Homeplus official said. "We will work to minimize the impact on employees throughout the receivership process."
