The Ulsan Metropolitan Council launched its 9th session Tuesday morning with an inauguration ceremony in the main chamber, pledging to build an open council that works alongside residents.

The ceremony, held at 11 a.m., was attended by all 22 council members as well as Ulsan Mayor Kim Sang-uk, Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education Superintendent Jo Yong-sik, civil servants, and citizens including members of civic groups that support the council and a legislative monitoring panel.

The 22 lawmakers took an oath of office, vowing to faithfully carry out their duties in accordance with their conscience to advance residents' rights and welfare and promote regional development. They also signed the council's code of ethics, committing to build a council that earns public trust through integrity and fairness.

Council Speaker Lee Yeong-hae said in her opening address that she would do her utmost to make the 9th Ulsan Metropolitan Council "a true hall of public opinion" — one that listens to voices from the community, responds through policy, earns the trust of citizens and prepares for the future.

The 9th Ulsan Metropolitan Council comprises 22 seats, including three proportional representation seats. By party, the People Power Party holds 15 seats, the Democratic Party six and the Progressive Party one.
