The foreign ministers of South Korea, the United States and Japan are set to meet on the sidelines of the NATO summit.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced Tuesday that Foreign Minister Cho Hyun will hold a trilateral meeting with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi late Tuesday afternoon local time, on the sidelines of the NATO leaders' summit.

"This trilateral foreign ministers' meeting, the first of this year, will cover the Korean Peninsula situation, regional and global affairs, and security and economic cooperation among the three countries," the ministry said.

Cho departed Tuesday alongside President Lee Jae-myung for Turkey, where the NATO summit is being held.

The ministry is also pursuing separate bilateral meetings — between South Korea and the US, and between South Korea and Japan — on the sidelines of the summit.
