The mayoral transition committee for Geumcheon-gu's ninth directly elected administration, chaired by Yoo Hee-bok, held its dissolution ceremony Monday, successfully concluding 20 days of official activity.
Launched on June 18, the committee worked through three subcommittees — covering planning and economy, administrative safety, and culture and welfare — to lay the groundwork for fulfilling the ninth administration's campaign pledges, closely examine key issues, and set the direction and priorities for the new district government.
Over the 20-day period, the committee carried out a wide range of activities, including work briefings, subcommittee meetings, field visits, policy forums, in-depth question sessions and evaluation meetings.
At the dissolution ceremony, committee secretary Ma Eun-jun presented the panel's policy recommendations in an activity report. The recommendations called for strengthening the implementation framework for urban future strategy projects, building a public conflict-management system involving residents, officials and experts along with a permanent communication channel, introducing resident-centered traffic policies, and enhancing the overall execution capacity of district administration.
Committee chair Yoo also handed Mayor Choi Ki-chan the committee's final activity report, which distilled the panel's intensive deliberations and policy proposals.
The committee plans to produce and release a full activity white paper by Aug. 5.
Chair Yoo thanked committee members for their dedication despite their busy professional lives, expressing hope that the work would "bring real, tangible change to residents' lives and serve as a catalyst for Geumcheon-gu to take a great leap forward."
Earlier that morning, the committee invited local journalists to the district office's planning situation room at 10:30 a.m. for a press briefing on the ninth administration's transition activities.
At the briefing, the committee laid out core district governance indicators and priority tasks for each subcommittee, framing them as a plan to strip away bloated administrative excess and build a leaner, more substantive Geumcheon-gu that residents can truly feel the benefit of.
Mayor Choi said he would "actively incorporate the valuable insights and reform tasks the transition committee proposed through its tireless, on-the-ground efforts," adding that he would spare no effort in "realizing a vibrant future for Geumcheon-gu together with its residents and achieving a new leap forward."
