BNK Kyongnam Bank has donated 60 million won ($39,000) to help low-income households in Changwon cope with summer heat and rising electricity costs.

Changwon City held a donation ceremony Monday at City Hall, attended by Mayor Kang Ki-yoon and BNK Kyongnam Bank President Kim Tae-han, among others. The bank contributed the 60 million won to help vulnerable residents stay healthy through the summer.

The funds will be transferred directly to the bank accounts of 1,200 households — including people with disabilities, elderly living alone and single-parent families — at 50,000 won per household.

BNK Kyongnam Bank had previously provided cooling goods such as electric fans and cooling mats, but switched to cash this year in recognition of the growing burden of electricity bills.

"I am grateful to BNK Kyongnam Bank for remembering and supporting our neighbors in need every year," Mayor Kang said. "This will be a great help particularly to those struggling with electricity costs."

BNK Kyongnam Bank has run summer giving campaigns for low-income residents every year since 2018. Beyond cooling support, the bank has carried out a range of community initiatives, including kimchi donations and traditional holiday gift-voucher distributions. Its cumulative donations to Changwon since 2023 have reached approximately 1.16 billion won.
