Hyundai Motor is using its official sponsorship of the DMZ International Documentary Film Festival to promote hydrogen mobility, providing hydrogen fuel cell vehicles and buses as official transport during the event while showcasing Hyundai Motor Group's hydrogen vision on site.
Hyundai Motor announced Monday that it signed a sponsorship agreement for the 18th DMZ International Documentary Film Festival at its Yangjae headquarters in Seocho-gu, Seoul. The signing was attended by Shin Seung-gyu, executive vice president for energy and hydrogen policy at Hyundai Motor Group, and Oh Dong-jin, executive director of the festival, along with other officials.
The DMZ International Documentary Film Festival, launched in 2009, has centered on themes of peace, ecology and the environment against the backdrop of the Demilitarized Zone. This year's event runs from Sept. 10 to 16 across Goyang and Paju.
Under the agreement, Hyundai Motor will provide a total of eight hydrogen fuel cell vehicles during the festival. The vehicles will be used for VIP and official protocol duties as well as transporting moviegoers.
Five hydrogen fuel cell SUVs — the All-New Nexo — will operate throughout the festival. On opening day, three large hydrogen fuel cell buses, the Universe FCEV, will join the fleet. The aim is to give festival visitors and officials a firsthand experience of hydrogen mobility at the venue.
Hyundai Motor will also screen a vision video for HTWO — Hyundai Motor Group's hydrogen brand and business platform — at the festival, alongside an advertisement for the All-New Nexo. The company plans to broaden its ESG footprint by linking cultural arts sponsorship with promotion of the hydrogen ecosystem.
Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles are seeing growing use as eco-friendly protocol vehicles given that they emit no carbon during operation. Through this sponsorship, Hyundai Motor intends to highlight not only its hydrogen vehicle technology but also the group's broader hydrogen business direction, spanning production, storage and utilization.
"It is meaningful to have Hyundai Motor's eco-friendly hydrogen mobility join the DMZ International Documentary Film Festival, which explores the values of peace and life," Shin said. "We will continue to work with diverse cultural and arts events to raise awareness of the transition to a hydrogen society and carry out sincere ESG activities."
Oh, the festival's executive director, said he was pleased that visitors would be welcomed with Hyundai Motor's eco-friendly hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, noting the growing public interest in the environment.
Hyundai Motor Group has previously deployed hydrogen fuel cell vehicles at major international events — providing the All-New Nexo and the Universe hydrogen fuel cell bus as official protocol vehicles at the Clean Energy Ministerial held in Busan in August last year and at the Hydrogen Council CEO Summit held in Seoul in December of the same year.
