Samsung Card on Sunday announced the launch of the Samsung iD SELECT UP Card, a new credit card that lets customers tailor benefits to their spending patterns in medical or lifestyle categories.

The card is part of Samsung Card's iD SELECT lineup and features a "SELECT service" that allows cardholders to choose the specific benefit they want.

At issuance, customers select one of two benefit options — a 20% discount on medical services or a 10% discount on lifestyle spending — and can switch between the two each month.

Cardholders who choose the medical discount receive 20% back on spending at hospitals and clinics, pharmacies, long-term care hospitals and veterinary clinics, based on the previous month's usage, up to a maximum of 15,000 won ($10) per month.

Those who opt for the lifestyle discount receive 10% back on spending with insurance providers, at gas stations and with mobile carriers, also based on the previous month's usage, up to a maximum of 15,000 won per month.

The card also provides base benefits with no minimum spending requirement: 0.5% back at domestic merchants, 1% back at discount stores and online shopping malls, 2% back at golf courses, airlines, duty-free shops, rail services and performances, and a discount on overseas transaction fees. Interest-free installment plans of two to three months are also available at hospitals and pharmacies to ease the cost of medical services.

Apartment maintenance fee payments count toward the previous month's spending total. However, the full amount of spending that received either the 20% medical discount or the 10% lifestyle discount is excluded from the monthly spending calculation.

Full details on how to use the SELECT service and participating merchants are available on the Samsung Card website and the Monimo app. The annual fee is 18,000 won for both the domestic-only and overseas-compatible (Visa) versions.
