The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the National Intelligence Service, the Korean National Police Agency and other government bodies, together with Korea Airports Corp., Incheon International Airport Corp. and the Korea Transportation Safety Authority, will jointly hold a public aviation security awareness event from Wednesday through Friday.

Now in its second year, the 2026 Aviation Security Week runs under the theme "Aviation Security Built with the Public: Safe Skies Opened by AI-Based Advanced Technology and Public Participation."

The program is designed to share the future of aviation security technology, spread a culture of aviation security awareness and boost the pride of aviation security workers. It features three tracks: public participation, hands-on experiences and promotional exhibitions and campaigns; a competition for aviation security workers; and academic exchanges among experts.

The opening ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the National Aviation Museum, with about 120 attendees from aviation security agencies, the aviation industry and the aviation security workforce. Vice Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Hong Ji-seon will deliver the opening address to mark the start of the 2026 Aviation Security Week.

National Assembly members Maeng Seong-gyu, former chair of the Land and Transport Committee, Bok Gi-wang, the committee's floor leader, and Kim Hee-jeong will also attend and deliver congratulatory remarks expressing gratitude for the dedication of aviation security workers and pledging the Assembly's support for building safer skies.

A representative from the US Transportation Security Administration is also expected to express appreciation for Korea-US aviation security cooperation and the strengthening of bilateral coordination. Park Jae-wan, chairman of the Korea Aviation Security Association, will deliver a keynote address, followed by an awards ceremony honoring outstanding contributions to aviation security.

"The 2026 Aviation Security Week will be an opportunity to share the achievements of Korea's aviation security sector, explore directions for future development, and help the public more easily understand and appreciate the importance of aviation security," Vice Minister Hong said. "The government will foster the domestic advanced security equipment industry and continue to promote a culture of aviation security, so that Korea's aviation security policy can become a model case in the international community."
