Hyundai Department Store announced Saturday that it received the top AA rating in the "First-Half 2026 ESG Assessment" released by Sustinvest, a leading domestic ESG rating agency.
The result marks the company's sixth consecutive AA rating since the second half of 2023. The AA rating was awarded to only 11.7 percent of the 1,305 companies evaluated in the first half of this year.
Hyundai Department Store also made the "2026 ESG Best 100 Companies" list. Sustinvest selects 100 companies for the list based on asset size among listed firms — 50 companies with assets of 2 trillion won ($1.29 billion) or more, 30 with assets between 500 billion won and 2 trillion won, and 20 with assets below 500 billion won.
Yang Myung-seong, executive director of sales strategy at Hyundai Department Store, said the company ranked fourth overall among listed companies with assets of 2 trillion won or more, the highest position in the retail sector. "This is the result of actively pursuing environmental management, shared growth, health and safety initiatives, and shareholder-friendly policies based on domestic and international ESG guidelines," he said.
Meanwhile, Hyundai Department Store is also the only retail company to have maintained an integrated A+ rating from the Korea Corporate Governance Service for three consecutive years from 2023 to 2025. Only four companies nationwide have sustained an A+ rating for three straight years.
