Geumcheon-gu said it held a policy proposal forum with the transition committee for the 9th directly elected district mayor on Wednesday afternoon at the planning situation room on the ninth floor of the district office, aiming to chart a path toward "a vibrant Geumcheon together with residents."
District Mayor Choi Ki-chan, transition committee members and advisory members attended the forum, exchanging views on a wide range of areas closely tied to residents' daily lives — including transportation, the environment, welfare, youth, culture and sports. Advisory members analyzed current conditions and put forward innovative policy proposals.
Proposals on culture, sports and future industries were particularly active.
Key suggestions included securing a dedicated budget for sports programs for people with disabilities, expanding a dedicated soccer field, and reviewing subsidies for sports associations — all aimed at strengthening grassroots sports and building the necessary infrastructure.
Participants also called for the thorough preservation of local cultural heritage sites such as Hoamsan Fortress, while proposing that the area along Anyang Stream be developed into a multipurpose leisure space and a hub for nurturing future high-tech industries, including drone-related sectors.
Earlier that day, the transition committee held a separate communication forum with a residents' emergency committee opposed to a planned data center — a local issue that has drawn significant attention. The committee said it convened the data center emergency committee forum Wednesday morning.
The forum was attended by transition committee chair Yoo Hee-bok and other committee officials, as well as resident representatives including Noh Gwon, chair of the joint data center emergency committee. Executives from the project developer Smart Ed-One, along with working-level officials from Geumcheon-gu's Green Future City Bureau and the architecture division, also took part.
The transition committee said the gathering was intended to directly hear and acknowledge residents' concerns sparked by the data center construction process, and to restore trust in the district administration.
"We have compiled every suggestion raised by residents at the forum and conveyed them in full to Geumcheon-gu," transition committee chair Yoo said. "We will promptly draw up policy recommendations that residents can trust and feel reassured by."
The district added that it plans to lower barriers to communication with residents and resolve issues related to the data center construction in a transparent and fair manner.
District Mayor Choi said he would "carefully review and actively incorporate the wide-ranging and substantive opinions offered by the transition committee's advisory members for the development of Geumcheon-gu," pledging to "build a vibrant Geumcheon that residents can feel directly in their everyday lives."
