Chilgok-gun in North Gyeongsang Province announced Monday that the Bongseong-ri area of Yakmok-myeon has been selected for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's 2026 "Woori Dongne Salrigi" (Our Neighborhood Revival) urban regeneration grant competition.

Only 10 areas nationwide were chosen in this round. Chilgok-gun was the sole winner among five municipal applicants from North Gyeongsang Province.

The selection secures 8.3 billion won ($5.34 million) in seed funding from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport for Chilgok-gun.

The funds will kick off full-scale urban regeneration in the Bongseong-ri area, targeting both residential conditions and everyday infrastructure.

The Woori Dongne Salrigi program is a Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport urban regeneration initiative aimed at small residential communities that have lost vitality due to population decline and aging housing stock. It focuses on improving living environments and rebuilding neighborhood communities.

Under the plan, 71 aging homes will be renovated and roughly 1,150 meters of alleyways refurbished. Safety will be enhanced through the installation of 30 smart security lights and five CCTV units.

A 25-space eco-friendly green parking lot will also be built to ease parking conditions in the area.

A community hub — dubbed the "365 Life Vitality Hub Center" — along with a multipurpose community space will be established to give residents a place to learn and connect.

"We will do our utmost to improve the residential environment and breathe new life into the community so that Yakmok-myeon can become an even better place to live," Chilgok-gun Mayor Kim Jae-wook said.
