President Lee Jae Myung on Saturday extended congratulations to US President Donald Trump and the American people on the 250th anniversary of American independence.
In a post on X, formerly Twitter, published in the early hours of Saturday, Lee said the United States had "begun a great journey toward the ideals of freedom and democracy 250 years ago, overcoming countless challenges to lead peace and prosperity in the international community." He added that South Korea is "a cherished partner of the United States, one that has upheld those values together."
Lee also paid tribute to American veterans of the Korean War. "Seventy years ago, countless young Americans did not hesitate to sacrifice themselves to defend the freedom of the Republic of Korea," he said. "We will forever remember that noble dedication and continue to strengthen the Korea-US alliance."
Lee said the two countries have expanded their partnership well beyond security, deepening cooperation in areas including the economy, advanced technology, energy, shipbuilding, nuclear power and AI. "Together with President Trump, I will work to achieve a new leap forward for the Korea-US alliance grounded in shared values and firm trust, and to contribute together to peace and shared prosperity on the Korean Peninsula and around the world," he said.
Lee closed by again wishing the American people well. "I once again congratulate the United States on its 250th anniversary of independence, and sincerely pray that God's blessings and peace be with all the American people," he said.
