Seoul's Dongdaemun-gu said its "Woori Home Property Tax Forecast Service" — a proactive initiative designed to ease tax uncertainty among residents of newly built redevelopment apartment complexes — wrapped up to strong public approval.
The district ran the service throughout June, covering 9,044 households across three newly built redevelopment apartment complexes in the area and providing estimated property tax figures in advance.
The service was conceived in response to a common difficulty facing residents of new apartments: because official housing prices are not announced until after move-in, taxpayers often struggle to gauge their property tax liability and plan their finances accordingly.
The "Woori Home Property Tax Forecast Service" was built around resident convenience. Taxpayers can log on to the Dongdaemun-gu district office website, enter their building and unit number, and immediately view their estimated tax bill. The system clearly distinguishes between the amount owed under the standard tax rate and the reduced amount available under the single-homeowner special exemption, helping residents identify the figure that applies to their own situation.
Resident feedback was overwhelmingly positive. A satisfaction survey found that 92.4 percent of users said they were satisfied. "It was genuinely helpful to be able to estimate my tax bill in advance and prepare my household finances," one user said. Another said the lookup process was straightforward and intuitive, adding, "I could get the information I needed in one go."
The district regards the service as a successful example of proactive governance — one that significantly reduced taxpayer anxiety ahead of property tax notices and improved financial predictability.
Dongdaemun-gu District Mayor Choi Dong-min said residents of newly built redevelopment apartments had long faced a stream of inquiries and frustrations because it was so difficult to know their property tax burden in advance. "We will continue to listen to residents' voices and develop demand-driven, tailored tax administration services that make a real, tangible difference in everyday life," he said.
