Woo Seong-jin was inaugurated as district mayor of Daegu's Dong-gu on Tuesday, launching the ninth directly elected term of district administration at a ceremony attended by about 500 residents, institutional heads and community leaders at Ayang Hall of the Ayang Arts Center.

In his inaugural address, Woo said he was taking his first steps forward "carrying in my heart the support and hopes that Dong-gu residents have sent me," and pledged to "turn residents' expectations into certainty and bring the district's potential to life."

He added that he would "boldly break from outdated practices and pursue clean, transparent governance," and that while he would set the direction and bear full responsibility, the results would be shared with residents.
