Gumi city in North Gyeongsang Province held the inauguration ceremony and regular assembly for Kim Jang-ho, the city's ninth directly elected mayor, on Tuesday at the grand performance hall of the city arts and culture center, with about 1,000 citizens and public officials in attendance.

Before the ceremony, Kim began his official schedule by paying his respects at Chungon Tower — a memorial to fallen soldiers — and the birthplace of former President Park Chung-hee.

The inauguration included an oath of office, an inaugural address and a screening of a promotional video.

A performance expressing the resolve of Gumi's 410,000 residents to defend the city's standing as a hub of the semiconductor industry was also featured.

"I am deeply grateful to the citizens who have given me the opportunity again to pursue uninterrupted development for Gumi," Kim said in his inaugural address. "I will make the people's livelihoods the top priority, and work together with citizens to build a Gumi that is an even better place to live."
