Yeongdeungpo-gu District Chief Choi Ho-kwon visited the jjokbang ("single-room tenement") district Tuesday morning to conduct a safety inspection ahead of the summer heat wave.

During the visit, Choi inspected cooling equipment installed in the area — including cooling fog systems and shared air conditioners — and met with local residents to check on their well-being and hear about any difficulties caused by the extreme heat.

He also made successive stops at heat-relief shelters where homeless people and jjokbang residents can rest and escape the heat: the Bohyeon Comprehensive Support Center, the Hope Support Center and the Jjokbang Counseling Center. At each site, he urged staff to maintain thorough safety management for local residents.

"Proactive protection is paramount, as extreme heat is directly linked to the lives of housing-vulnerable populations," Choi said. "I hope homeless people and jjokbang residents in our community can spend this summer safely and in good health."
