Suwon has formed a "lovebug field response unit" to carry out eco-friendly pest control after lovebugs (Plecia nearctica) were spotted across the city.

The city began high-pressure water spraying using tanker trucks Sunday in designated intensive management zones — including forests, parks, urban green spaces and areas with frequent complaints. The field response unit will continue operating to prevent the insects from spreading further.

Authorities are also stepping up control measures in those zones by installing attractant traps and sticky traps. The city plans to guide residents on how to deal with lovebugs through its website and social media channels.

Residents can reduce the inconvenience by minimizing outdoor lighting and placing sticky pads near light sources, checking door gaps and window screens, wearing dark-colored clothing when going outside, and promptly washing their vehicles if lovebug remains contaminate them.
