Hairdressers visit homes of elderly residents who have difficulty going out

Jongno-gu, led by District Mayor Jung Mun-heon, has launched a home-visit hair care service for vulnerable residents who have difficulty going out due to mobility limitations, as part of its "Ansim Jongno Daily Life Care Project."

This year, the district has been running an integrated medical and long-term care program to support the daily health of residents aged 65 and older and those with disabilities. The program covers five areas: health care, including home medical visits and support for recently discharged patients; general health, covering physical and mental well-being; long-term care insurance; emergency and daily care support; and residential services, including home environment improvements and housing support.

The hair care service began June 22, with staff visiting homes of residents who had stopped going to hair salons due to mobility issues or distance.

In Gyonam-dong, a volunteer hair care club called "Midream," made up of current students, alumni and a faculty adviser from Junghwa University of Art, took part by donating their skills. In Buam-dong, the Korea Beauty Welfare Association, which has a formal agreement with the district, visited eligible residents at home.

"This service goes beyond simple grooming — it is a stepping stone to improving the hygiene of isolated neighbors and bringing vitality back to their daily lives," Jung said. "We will consistently expand the number of participating organizations so that comprehensive welfare reaches every resident in need."
