District raises record-high 2.16 billion won, surpassing its goal by 120.3%; Gasan-dong community center earns additional citation
Geumcheon-gu received an institutional commendation from the Seoul Community Chest of Korea on Wednesday after being named an outstanding district at the "2026 Hope Ondol Warm Winter Project Merit Award and Performance Sharing Ceremony," recognizing its contributions to the annual fundraising campaign.
The Hope Ondol Warm Winter Project is a flagship public-private partnership run jointly by the district and the Seoul Community Chest of Korea to support vulnerable residents during the winter months. Funds raised go toward covering living expenses, medical costs and housing needs for those in difficulty.
The ceremony brought together district officials and standout contributors to share the year's fundraising results and recognize those who helped advance a culture of giving.
Geumcheon-gu drew particular attention this campaign cycle by far exceeding its original target of 1.8 billion won ($1.17 million), ultimately raising 2.16 billion won — 120.3 percent above goal. The result set an all-time fundraising record for the district and, officials said, demonstrated the community's generosity even amid difficult economic conditions.
A new initiative called "Geumcheon Kimchi Is Coming," launched by the district to deliver kimchi to vulnerable households, also earned strong marks. Over the campaign period, the district collected 73,843 kilograms of kimchi through donor contributions and an additional 16,000 kilograms through its own distribution program, delivering a combined 89,843 kilograms to 11,302 households.
Geumcheon-gu added to its honors at the ceremony by receiving a second commendation, this one in the administrative neighborhood category.
Following the district's institutional award, the Gasan-dong Community Center — which posted the highest fundraising figures among all neighborhood centers in the district — was separately recognized with an administrative neighborhood citation. Gasan-dong, home to the G-Valley tech and industrial cluster, has built a strong giving culture through close cooperation between local businesses and residents.
