Incheon's Jeomulpo-gu has secured the temporary courthouse for the Incheon Maritime International Commercial Court, slated to open in March 2028 — marking the newly formed district's first major achievement ahead of its official launch on July 1.

The Supreme Court's Court Administration Office building review committee announced Wednesday that the former Jung-gu Council building, submitted by Jeomulpo-gu, had been selected as the final site for the temporary courthouse. District Mayor-elect Kim Chan-jin currently serves as district mayor of Dong-gu.

The selection came after a competition among 17 candidate sites across six Incheon districts.

Jeomulpo-gu had been the first district in Incheon to launch a bid campaign, citing its geographic advantage centered on Incheon Port's inner harbor, its symbolic standing as a historic center of modern judicial history, and the need for balanced development in the original city center.

The former Jung-gu Council building sits adjacent to the port, where maritime disputes actually arise, and is surrounded by key maritime administrative agencies, including the Incheon Headquarters Customs Office and the Incheon Regional Office of Oceans and Fisheries.
