District office holds commendation ceremony Tuesday to thank top donors for their contributions
Guro-gu held a commendation ceremony Tuesday for outstanding donors of the "2026 Huimang Ondol (Hope Ondol) Warm Winter" campaign at the main district office auditorium.
The "Huimang Ondol Warm Winter" campaign is a leading public-private partnership fundraising drive aimed at supporting vulnerable residents during the winter months. The district has worked to close welfare blind spots by drawing on the voluntary participation of local residents, businesses and organizations.
The ceremony was organized to express gratitude to top donors who took part in the campaign through large or recurring contributions, helping to spread a culture of sharing across the community.
A total of 52 donors were honored this year: one received a commendation from the Seoul Metropolitan Government mayor, 41 from the Guro-gu district mayor, and 10 from the head of the Seoul Community Chest of Korea.
The ceremony opened with a presentation of the Guro Hope Welfare Foundation's 2025 results and 2026 plans, followed by a performance of appreciation. District Mayor Jang In-hong, Seoul Community Chest of Korea Secretary General Shin Hye-young and Guro Hope Welfare Foundation Chairman Kang Gwang-won were among those who presented commendations to the honorees.
During the campaign period from November last year through February this year, Guro-gu raised 6.33 billion won ($4,570,000) — more than double its original target of 3.1 billion won — the highest fundraising total in the district's history. The district has also been recognized for its public-private collaboration, earning a place on Seoul's list of outstanding autonomous districts for five consecutive years.
"I am deeply grateful to all the donors who practiced warm-hearted generosity for their neighbors despite difficult economic conditions," District Mayor Jang said. "We will continue to work closely with the Seoul Community Chest of Korea and the Guro Hope Welfare Foundation to spread the value of sharing further, and to build a Guro where no one is left behind."
