Gyeongsan City in North Gyeongsang Province held a special promotional event for its premium Shinbi peach on June 22 in the courtyard outside the National Assembly's press briefing room.
About 30 people attended, including Gyeongsan Mayor Jo Hyeon-il and Assembly member Jo Ji-yeon, along with other National Assembly officials.
The event featured tastings and on-site sales of in-season Shinbi peaches, with the entire stock selling out within 30 minutes — drawing a strong response from consumers.
The Shinbi peach combines the crisp texture of a nectarine with the sweetness of a white peach. Its brief harvest window makes it available only in summer, and it has built a loyal following as a premium fruit.
Gyeongsan Dungji Fruit Farming Association, a peach producers' cooperative based in Gyeongsan, also took part, conducting on-site sales and promotional activities led by growers.
Assembly member Jo Ji-yeon said she would "do her utmost to provide policy support for expanding market access and strengthening agricultural competitiveness, so that Gyeongsan peaches can grow into an even more prominent premium fruit brand representing South Korea."
Mayor Jo Hyeon-il called the Shinbi peach "a signature summer fruit with outstanding quality and a distinctively differentiated flavor," adding that he hoped the event would help spread awareness of Gyeongsan peaches' excellence and brand value nationwide while opening new markets and broadening the consumer base.
