Running for seven weeks from Tuesday at Gangbuk Sonamu Hall and Gangbuk Jindalrae Hall, the festival unites artists and residents through the arts
The Gangbuk Cultural Foundation (CEO Seo Gang-seok) in Seoul will hold the "2026 Gangbuk Festa" for seven weeks starting Tuesday at Gangbuk Sonamu Hall and Gangbuk Jindalrae Hall inside the Gangbuk Arts and Culture Center.
Gangbuk Festa is the district's flagship arts and culture festival, offering local artists a sustained platform for creative activity while giving residents a wide range of cultural experiences. Organized around three programs — performances, exhibitions and a lifestyle culture festival — it brings together professional and community artists from Gangbuk-gu to collaborate and engage with the public.
The performance program features five productions staged every Saturday at 3 p.m. at Gangbuk Jindalrae Hall. Opening with "The Little Dobby and the White Ox" by theater company Sangsang Gurakbu, the lineup continues with "Samseakie's Grand Adventure" by Geuk Changjakso Byeolbyeol Saenggak, "Dear Santa" by Demacia, "Eodukshini" by creative group Seongchanpa, and "Song of the Butterfly II" by Kim Jin-hwan Arts Academy — a varied program for audiences of all ages.
The foundation is also bringing back its "flexible ticketing" system, first introduced last year to strong audience response. Audiences choose their own admission price based on the value they feel the performance offers, with tickets ranging from 3,000 won (about $2) to 10,000 won.
The exhibition program is divided into two parts and features 10 artists in total. Part One runs from Wednesday through July 15, daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Titled "Reconstructed Senses," it invites visitors to set aside fixed ways of seeing familiar objects and discover the essence beneath the surface, presenting works in which artists reimagine everyday materials through their own sensory perspectives.
Part Two, "The Inner Compass," runs from July 18 through Aug. 8. Through the artists' diverse works, visitors are invited to step back from the busyness of daily life and check their own inner direction.
The lifestyle culture festival takes place Saturday at 2 p.m. at Gangbuk Sonamu Hall. The event features a guest performance by singer Kim Su-chan alongside a varied program by Gangbuk-gu community arts clubs, spanning comic nonverbal performance, hip-hop and traditional Korean music. This year, a new community arts club exhibition has been added, making the festival more expansive than before.
"The artists selected for Gangbuk Festa are reaching audiences beyond the district, performing on stages across the country," said Lim Hyeon-ho, head of the regional culture team at the Gangbuk Cultural Foundation. "We hope this festival will serve as a meaningful platform supporting the continued growth and development of local artists."
