The international relief NGO has run diverse aid programs for vulnerable groups over the past decade
Coconut, a nonprofit organization, held its 10th anniversary ceremony Tuesday at a seminar hall on the first floor of the Gwangju Culture and Sports Center.
Coconut is an international relief and development NGO that pursues four core programs: human rights and character education, relief projects, senior welfare and cultural programs (talent support), and environmental improvement projects.
The event was organized to mark the organization's 10th founding anniversary, review its achievements over the past decade and discuss future directions. The program included a commemorative ceremony, a presentation of merit and appreciation plaques, a regular general assembly and discussions on upcoming project plans.
CEO Yang Gu-jin said Coconut was founded to give African youth dreams and hope, and has since worked across a range of fields including soccer, human rights and talent donation. "Over the past 10 years, we have been able to continue our work thanks to the support and encouragement of people from all walks of life," he said.
The event featured a screening of a monitoring video documenting progress through May on an education project in Gambia under the Samsung Dream Scholarship Foundation's global overseas scholarship program. Reports were also presented on senior welfare projects, international sports exchange programs, character education initiatives and Africa-related activities.
