The second edition of the Mudungsan Double Heart Trail Run has channeled the goodwill of its participants into a donation for children with leukemia and childhood cancer.
CUK Company announced Tuesday that it had visited the Gwangju and South Jeolla Province chapter of the Korea Leukemia and Childhood Cancer Association to present a donation of 2.6 million won ($1,690).
The funds were raised through a portion of entry fees and a donation campaign tied to the April event, which drew about 600 runners to the slopes of Mudungsan. The competition was jointly organized by the Korea Leukemia and Childhood Cancer Association's Gwangju and South Jeolla Province chapter, the Hwasun-gun Sports Council and CUK Company.
Ahn Hoe-pal, general director of CUK Company, said the Mudungsan Double Heart Trail Run was "not simply a race for records, but a sports and cultural event where challenge, sharing and hope are practiced together." He added that it was "all the more meaningful that the sweat and sincerity of each participant can offer even a small measure of strength to children receiving treatment."
An official from the Korea Leukemia and Childhood Cancer Association's Gwangju and South Jeolla Province chapter expressed deep gratitude to the participants and CUK Company "for coming together for the children despite difficult economic conditions," and said the donation would "be used with great care for children with leukemia and childhood cancer who need treatment and support."
