Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani is on the verge of becoming the overall top vote-getter in MLB All-Star fan voting for the first time in his career.

Ohtani received 2,310,735 votes in the National League designated hitter category in the second interim results of the first-phase All-Star fan vote released by MLB — the most of any player across all positions in both leagues.

Ohtani made his major league debut in 2018 and has been named to the All-Star team five consecutive years since 2021.

A four-time MVP — winning in the American League in 2021 and 2023 and in the NL in 2024 and 2025 — Ohtani is now within reach of a new milestone: the overall top vote-getter in All-Star fan balloting.

During the years Ohtani has been selected to the All-Star Game, the overall fan vote leader was Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (2021, Toronto Blue Jays), Aaron Judge (2022 and 2024–2025, New York Yankees) and Ronald Acuña Jr. (2023, Atlanta Braves).

In the AL, Toronto second baseman Ernie Clement ranked second overall and led all AL players with 2,054,130 votes.

The first-phase fan vote closes Thursday at 1 a.m. Korean Standard Time, and the top vote-getter in each league automatically earns a starting spot in the All-Star Game. In the second phase, the top two finishers from the first phase at each remaining position face off again to determine the final starters.

Among Korean players, Kim Hye-sung (Dodgers, 659,500 votes) and Kim Ha-seong (Atlanta, 253,376 votes) held their respective positions from the first vote — fourth among NL second basemen and sixth among NL shortstops.

Kim Hye-sung is currently playing in Triple-A due to roster depth on the Dodgers, while Kim Ha-seong has been seeing only sporadic playing time because of a batting slump, making All-Star appearances unlikely for both.

Lee Jung-hoo of the San Francisco Giants, second in NL batting average and a candidate to reach the All-Star Game as a recommended player, climbed one spot to 19th among outfielders with 317,862 votes.
