The Nakdong River National Institute of Biological Resources said Monday that Director Yong Seok-won visited a field research site in the Danyang area of North Chungcheong Province to conduct a special safety inspection of outdoor research activities and encourage on-site researchers. The team is carrying out a project to discover new and unrecorded species focused on unexplored taxonomic groups of freshwater flora and fauna.

During the visit, Yong walked the outdoor survey routes with researchers and checked whether staff were wearing personal protective equipment, whether first-aid supplies were on hand, and whether infectious disease prevention guidelines were being followed.

He also reviewed protocols requiring researchers to work in pairs in areas with poor communications coverage, emergency response procedures for urgent situations, and criteria for halting work and evacuating in the event of sudden weather events such as extreme heat or heavy rainfall.

In addition, Yong held a meeting with field researchers to hear about practical difficulties encountered during outdoor surveys and gather suggestions for improving safety management.

"We will actively support our researchers by expanding safety equipment suited to the nature of outdoor research activities and strengthening advance training, so that they can carry out their work without a single safety incident," Yong said.
