Jungnang-gu will hold a "Household Boost Payback" event at traditional markets and alley shopping districts; seven commercial zones selected through a Seoul Metropolitan Government competitive grant project will offer price discounts and digital Onuri gift voucher refunds from June 24 through June 30
Jungnang-gu District Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi is stepping up efforts to revive traditional markets and alley commercial districts in the area.
Jungnang-gu will hold a "Household Boost Payback" event from June 24 through June 30 to stimulate local spending and inject new energy into traditional markets and alley shopping districts.
The event, selected through a Seoul Metropolitan Government competitive grant project, is designed to boost foot traffic at traditional markets and alley shopping districts by offering consumers discounts and refund benefits, with the aim of revitalizing a sluggish local economy. By concentrating benefits over a set period, organizers also hope to encourage repeat visits and create a virtuous cycle of consumer engagement.
Out of 120 commercial zones selected across Seoul, seven in Jungnang-gu will take part: Jungnang Dongbu Market, Dongwon Market, Dongwon Market Shopping Street, Jangmi Jeil Market, Myeonmok Market, Bongwu Market alley shopping district, and Urim Matsolssi-gil alley shopping district.
During the event, some stores will offer price discounts. Consumers who submit receipts from participating commercial zones at a refund booth can receive up to 30,000 won ($22) in digital Onuri gift vouchers, depending on the amount spent.
Refunds will be issued on the spot after receipt verification at each market or shopping street's designated refund location, or distributed in bulk after the event ends. To extend benefits to as many residents as possible, refunds are limited to one per person for the duration of the event, and duplicate payments will not be allowed.
"I hope this event provides real benefits to residents visiting traditional markets and alley shopping districts, and serves as an opportunity to bring new vitality to local commerce," Ryu said. "I look forward to many residents taking part and enjoying the various benefits on offer."
