Gangnam-gu held an opening ceremony Monday for the Yeonghui General Sports Center at the Seoul Yeonghui Elementary School complex, marking a fresh start for a community sports facility.

The center had been closed for an extended period, but Gangnam-gu coordinated with relevant agencies and carried out facility improvements, resuming operations June 1.

The district refurbished existing facilities, including a swimming pool and fitness center, and added an indoor golf practice range and a Pilates equipment room. Going forward, the center plans to offer a range of programs — swimming, golf, Pilates and group exercise classes — so residents can enjoy healthy leisure activities close to home.

"It is meaningful to be able to return a long-dormant facility to our residents," Gangnam-gu District Mayor Jo Seong-myeong said. "We will work hard to ensure stable operations so that the Yeonghui General Sports Center can become a community sports hub that anyone can use with ease."
