Stadium named 'top-grossing venue' by Billboard nine times since 2011 naming rights deal
With the 2026 FIFA World Cup just around the corner, the tournament's final will be held at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
MetLife Stadium serves as the home ground for NFL teams the New York Giants and the New York Jets, with a capacity of 82,500, making it one of the largest sports complexes in the United States. Its proximity to New York City has made it a premier venue not only for sports but also for major entertainment events. K-pop acts including BTS and Twice, as well as global artists such as Taylor Swift and Coldplay, have all staged large-scale concerts there.
The stadium took its current name in 2011, when global life insurer MetLife signed a long-term naming rights agreement — a strategic move the company described as going beyond simple brand exposure to embed its corporate philosophy into a physical space. The venue was named Venue of the Year by Stadium Business magazine in 2017 and has appeared on Billboard's list of top-grossing stadiums nine times. In 2021, it became the first NFL stadium to join the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change's Sports for Climate Action Framework.
Beyond its naming sponsorship, MetLife consistently pursues corporate social responsibility initiatives linking sports, local communities and the arts. In December last year, the company partnered with FIFA and Global Citizen to establish the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, pledging $9 million (about 13.4 billion won).
Through the "Footwork for Futures" challenge, participants who post videos of themselves juggling a soccer ball on social media with the hashtag #FootworkForFutures trigger a $5 donation per post. MetLife says the initiative is designed to turn sports participation into a natural act of social contribution, with donations capped at $100,000 to support children and young people with limited access to education and sports.
"MetLife Stadium has become a symbolic space where sports, culture and social values intersect," a MetLife official said. "It is a prime example of MetLife's philosophy — that sports and culture can transform people's lives for the better — brought to life in a real space and through real experiences."
Meanwhile, MetLife is a global life insurer that has operated in South Korea for about 37 years through MetLife Insurance since entering the market in 1989. Through its Korea Social Responsibility Foundation, the company also runs a range of social contribution programs covering areas such as environmental education and financial inclusion.
