Gyeonggi Province Food Bank announced Monday it will distribute "summer survival kits" to 2,880 vulnerable households after receiving 450 million won (about $296,000) in donations from the Community Chest of Gyeonggi.
A grant presentation ceremony and kit-packing volunteer event were held that day at the Gyeonggi Provincial Human Resources Development Institute, drawing about 100 participants. They included Yoo Ju-heon, director of social service policy at the Ministry of Health and Welfare; Han Gyeong-su, head of the welfare project division at Gyeonggi Province; Yoon Yeo-jun, chairman of the Community Chest of Korea; Kwon In-wook, chairman of the Community Chest of Gyeonggi; Jeon Chang-ho, chairman of the Gyeonggi Council of Social Welfare; and volunteers.
The Community Chest of Gyeonggi collected the 450 million won from corporate and individual donors and channeled the funds to the Gyeonggi Metropolitan Food Bank, which will use them to assemble the kits. The packages are set to reach 2,880 households — including those classified as energy-vulnerable — in southern Gyeonggi Province through local food banks and food markets in the region.
