Government pushes to guarantee rest rights for public-sector facility workers

Korea Expressway Corp. said Monday that its new president, Yu Jeong-hun, visited the company's facility management subsidiary on June 12 — his second day in office — to encourage frontline workers and strengthen on-site communication. Yu plans to continue pursuing a field-centered management approach.

The visit was arranged to proactively align with the government's recent push to guarantee rest rights and improve working conditions for public-sector facility management workers, and to hear directly from staff who quietly serve on the front lines of road and traffic services.

That day, Yu received a briefing from the subsidiary's management on the status of facility maintenance, cleaning and security operations. He personally inspected conditions relevant to meaningful rest-space improvements, including heating and cooling systems, ventilation equipment and the availability of amenities.

At a meeting with employees, Yu expressed his gratitude, saying, "It is thanks to you — working hard in places that go unseen — that the people who use our expressways can enjoy comfortable and safe service."

He also pledged to "create comfortable rest spaces that workers can genuinely feel a difference in," and added that he would "spare no support so that the parent company and subsidiary can cooperate for mutual benefit and become a model case for improving labor conditions at public institutions."

Meanwhile, in his inaugural address on June 11, Yu outlined four key priorities: rebuilding public trust, transforming the company into a future platform enterprise, advancing balanced connectivity alongside safety and logistics innovation, and establishing a culture of fairness and mutual growth.
