A Daegu election commission employee is facing disciplinary proceedings after being caught practicing golf swings inside his office building, adding to the mounting criticism of the National Election Commission amid the ballot shortage crisis.

The Daegu Election Commission said June 13 it plans to refer the employee, identified only as A, to a disciplinary committee on charges including conduct unbecoming of a public official.

A used his personal golf club to practice swings on the fourth-floor landing of the Daegu Jung-gu Election Commission building during working hours on the afternoon of June 10.

The incident came to light after a citizen filmed the employee from a building across the street and posted the video on social media. "Wow, this is unforgivable. I have to film this and put it up," the person said while recording.

A said he recalled practicing once during his lunch break but was not certain whether he had done so again afterward.

A Daegu Election Commission official said the agency "takes the situation very seriously" and would convene a disciplinary committee to review follow-up measures, including possible disciplinary action, based on the findings of its investigation.

Meanwhile, a joint police-prosecution task force investigating the ballot shortage during the June 3 local elections imposed a travel ban Thursday on former National Election Commission Chairman Noh Tae-ak, former Secretary General Heo Cheol-hun and other commission officials.
